HistoryThe farm where Eagle Street Estates is located was actually cared for by James' mother's father, nearly 100 years ago when he was a boy. The 57 acres farm went up for sale in 2000, which James bought for a possible residence someday near the home where he grew up.
The idea of a Christmas tree farm was started when his father, who worked in the College of Agriculture at the Pennsylvania State University for 13 years, met a professor who owned and operated a tree farm himself. This gentleman explained to his father that most folks who own and run tree farms currently were at the age of 60 or more and that it was a dying business. At that point James started doing a significant amount of research as to what entailed in growing Christmas trees. The family began official business in 2007 when they planted their first year. Unfortunate mishaps, such as deer damage, forced them to move the planting to a different area and place an 8 foot fence to prevent the problem. Since that time they have had fine growing seasons allowing the frazer firs to mature into 6 to 8 foot trees on average of 6-7 years. |
